Foot Reflexotherapy

Reflexology is the way of massage that involves using different pressure to the ears, hands, and feet. People who use this method of treatment are called reflexologists. The therapist uses appropriate techniques and pressure on the foot during the session in a calm atmosphere, so the client will feel special and relax.

The origins of reflexology go back to antiquity. The Chinese used the medicine method of pressing points on the feet along with acupuncture treatments around 5000 BC. The fascination with the foot can also be found in Greek mythology and Egyptian culture. The first evidence of foot reflexotherapy was found in Saqqara, Egypt. It is a relief from the tomb of Ankhma – Hora, it comes from 2500 – 3000 BC. It shows two ancient therapists pressing their patients’ feet and hands. High in the spiritual hierarchy of Ankhma – Hor was one of the most important figures at the court of the king.

Reflexology - as it has become known

In Europe, many forms of medicine reflexotherapy were already known in the 15th century, while its development occurred at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Despite the fact that the massage therapy method is old, nowadays William Fitzgerald introduced it by developing zone theories in the 20th century. In his theory of zone therapy, he described the occurrence of 10 energy zones. This division allowed Eunice Ingram, considered the founder of modern reflexology, to give a start to sketching maps: foot map and hand map. Eunice Ingram disseminated the reflexology in the 1930s. The woman was amazing, she devoted 40 years of her life to practicing and promoting this method of treatment. The most common in the world is the Inge Dougans method. She graduated from the school of reflexotherapy in Denmark in 1981. Thanks to her, two years later, reflexology went to South Africa, where she founded the International School of Reflexology and Meridian Therapy. The school has licensed branches around the world.

The holistic way of Foot Reflexotherapy

‘Qi’ energy (a balance between Yang & Yin, negativity, and positivity) is a basic concept in the philosophy of Chinese medicine. This is the source of our vitality and strength. Energy is the invisible life force flowing in the human body, it flows through the body through established energy channels called meridians. The theory of Reflexotherapy is a therapeutic foot massage with meridian therapy. Reflexotherapy understands man in a holistic way. Affects the health of the body, mind, and spirit. Can be used at any age. It is not the reflexologist who heals, the body heals itself. The therapist helps him to function naturally and properly – eliminate toxins and unblock meridians. All healing processes are the work of the body itself, the therapist activates and stimulates them to act through appropriate pressure.

What is a Foot Reflexotherapy?

Reflexotherapy is a deeply relaxing and therapeutic treatment. It is based on the ancient Chinese theory that in a healthy body, energy is flowing freely – and if that energy becomes obstructed, then illness may result. It is a holistic treatment that works on your mind-body, and spirit as a whole, rather than treating just one specific area. For instance, if you are suffering from stress, you may experience headaches and tension pain. Reflexotherapy is an effective and safe method of therapy. It involves pressing the right points on your feet, called reflections. Each of these points corresponds to a relevant organ, internal organ, or body part. Reflexology is a science deal with the principles of work of these reflections and offers the knowledge necessary to address the causes of their hypersensitivity.

The foot is a reflection of the overall health condition of the body. By pressing these places with the thumb and fingers we reach the sources of the disease, anxiety, improve circulation, and stimulate the nervous system to regulate the disorder of the body’s functions. This is how the therapist supports the self-healing process, which also improves our health condition.
